Released Files & Accompanying Documents

Westminster Abbey and the Seminary of Christ the King are voluntarily releasing the files of the monk and priest, Placidus Sander, who has been credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. These files, which include personal letters, medical records, legal documents, and other materials related to Sander’s life, are being made public in the hope that their disclosure will contribute to the healing process for survivors.

As Supreme Justice Louis Brandeis famously said, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” By shining a light on the past, we hope to foster transparency, accountability, and ultimately, healing. In these files victim/survivors will find information to help them understand the circumstances of their abuse and to seek justice.

We also hope that this action will encourage others who may have experienced abuse to come forward. To facilitate this, we invite everyone to see what new understanding has been reached in a civil action,  explore the historical records related to allegations of abuse, read our tribute to victim/survivors, and access the status of the case against Placidus Sander.
